Cosmetic Treatments: Not a Big Thing Anymore : Dr. Pavleen Khurana

Self love and admiration is no more a high class maintenance deal. It comes in all packages with the increased availability of cosmetic procedures and clinics worldwide.

The cosmetic industry has come a long way by strolling from enhancing aesthetic features to regain healthy skin after burns or acid attacks. The cosmetology clinics are helping people to keep up with the social standpoints by offering just in time short processes to enhance their looks and well being. Also, in this fast paced lifestyle, brides are on a look out for simple yet effective way of achieving looks that can make them look photo ready.

Whether it is about attending weddings, year-end parties or simply going on a holiday, men and women alike are opting for numerous non-surgical methods to get that look. Let us have a look at few popular ones:

Reducing Pigmentation

In common language what we term as blemishes, melasma, dark spots, patches, post inflammatory hyper pigmentation dullness and uneven skin tone, are actually diverse types of skin pigmentation.

One of the biggest concern and reason of having pigmentation is skin damage, which could be due to sun exposure, bleaching, scrubbing, parlour facials, lasers or chemical peels. Other reasons for pigmentation can be hormonal changes especially in women after pregnancy, commonly resulting in Melasma which are pigmented patches on the cheeks, nose, forehead and around the lips.

Typically clinicians treat pigmentation through Hydroquinone or retinol creams. However, if you want to be photo ready instantly then M22 is a modular multi-application platform for the treatment of over 30 skin conditions and hair removal that has given me the best ability to treat an array of conditions, including acne, rosacea, leg veins, freckles, pigmentation, scars, melasma, wrinkles and more. Removal of Acne Scars

Acne scars as we all generally know, is the result of inflamed blemishes caused by skin pores engorged with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria.

These scars are caused when the body produces too much collagen as acne wounds heal, resulting in a mass of raised tissue on the skin’s surface, called Hypertrophic or keloid scarring. Also, the scars develop when there is a loss of tissue that looks like small holes or chickenpox scars, known as depressed scarring. Persistent and untreated inflammatory acne lesions may cause various degrees of permanent scarring. There are multiple treatment options to get rid of acne scars that include dermabrasion, chemical peel, laser resurfacing, soft-tissue fillers, laser/light Therapy and microdermabrasion. However, laser resurfacing is one of the most effective ways of reducing and clearing acne scars by my experience. ResurFX is the latest non-ablative, fractional laser technology to improve skin discoloration, stretch marks, acne scars and wrinkles. Unlike other fractional technologies, it needs only one sitting to be effective, thus is time efficient and protects the patient’s skin.

Hair Removal

The quest for smooth, hairless skin is not new! Hair removal is not just restricted to the facial areas, or the arms and legs. Most men and women indulge in hair removal to showcase smooth, unblemished and radiant skin, while others do it purely for hygiene reasons in specific areas like the underarms and pubic areas.

In women, most of the facial hair is caused due to hormonal imbalance. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome being one of the commonest causes can be treated with medicines however; it does not reduce the amount of hair.

Laser hair removal, a process of removing hair by exposing hair follicle to pulses of laser light, has caught up as a means to do away with hair permanently. The LightSheer has high peak-power, adjustable pulse duration and a variety of spot-sizes that allow rapid treatment of all body areas. Since, men and women have different hair textures and thickness, the machine gives me a customized benefit to optimally meet the needs of each patient by tailoring treatment accuracy, efficacy, safety, comfort and speed.

The best thing about the cosmetic procedures involved now, is that, the anti-ageing and cosmetics procedures have become better like never before. People have started accepting the procedures of the cosmetic surgery industry. According to survey data released by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) in 2017, nearly 70% of consumers were reported considering cosmetic treatment. Women, who were most of the time hesitant to admit they had BOTOX and fillers, just a few years ago, are now accepting the same as these procedures are becoming more main-stream. There are fewer stigmas around undergoing the cosmetic procedures now.

With technologies taking over and revolutionising this industry, these treatments have gained further popular currencies among the customers. To achieve that self-gratifying look, they are willing to experiment more in this area. They are letting go of their inhibitions and taking actions in order to become the quintessential self-made individual, confident in one’s own skin.
